Elevate your Joomla site with "Fields - Location," a dynamic Google Maps plugin for Joomla 3 and 5 that transforms custom fields into powerful location selectors. Let your users pinpoint exact locations using an interactive map, search for known places via Google Places, or enter latitude/longitude (lat/lng) coordinates—perfect for articles, categories, contacts, and users.

How It Works

"Fields - Location" integrates seamlessly as a custom field type, enabling you to add unlimited map fields across your Joomla content. Users can:

  • Drag and drop on an embedded Google Map to select a location.
  • Use Google Places search to quickly find and choose known addresses or landmarks.
  • Manually input lat/lng coordinates for precision.

With just two simple configuration options in the plugin settings—Google Maps API Key and Google Maps Static API Key—you’re ready to go. Per-field settings let you customize map size, default location, map type, zoom level, and choose from four output options:

  • Embedded Google Map: Display an interactive map directly in your content.
  • Static Google Map: Show a non-interactive image (optionally linked to Google Maps, and optionally cached locally).
  • Google Maps Link: Provide a clickable link to the location using lat/lng or place name/address.
  • Lat/Lng Display: Present the coordinates as plain text for technical users.

Inspired by user feedback (a shout-out to “Reinhard” for suggesting Google Places Search), I’ve packed this plugin with features to streamline location selection, benefiting the Joomla community I cherish.
