QC Update Laboratory
Introduction
QC Update Laboratory creates a private, production-derived copy of a Joomla site so administrators can test an extension or Joomla core update before changing production. QCUL captures the exact update package, records its filename, size, and SHA-256 checksum, installs it only in the laboratory, checks the resulting version and site routes, and keeps the automated evidence beside the administrator’s human review. When the tested update is accepted, QCUL can push that exact package to the live site. Before the push, the administrator chooses an existing recovery method or asks QCUL to create a temporary rollback checkpoint. QCUL verifies the expected starting version, package integrity, production identity, permissions, storage, maintenance handling, target version, and post-update state. The latest laboratory update can be undone and retested. A production push can also be undone during the configured checkpoint window when the temporary QCUL protection option was selected.

Safety First
QCUL keeps update testing separate from production until an administrator explicitly pushes a completed laboratory result. Production safety checks require the exact tested package, the expected starting version, the correct site identity, sufficient permissions and storage, and a selected recovery method. Temporary QCUL rollback checkpoints protect the update-related file and database scope and are verified during restore rather than relying only on version metadata.
QC Update Laboratory is not a general backup or full staging replacement. Keep an independent, restorable backup before production work. QCUL intentionally manages one active laboratory and one update at a time so every production decision remains connected to one exact package, review, and report. Hosting disk, execution-time, and resource limits may still apply.
