this is the best extension that provides you courses and allows you sell and buy courses,,,plus its free and integrates smoothly with Jomsocial and community builder,,,they know what they are doing,,,excellent work guys,,thanks a lot for this and for making it for free :) ;) much love and respect with my wishes for you for more success
Over the years of using Joomla my expactations have steadily risen in line with the quality extensions that are released. This is true of both paid and free extensions. We are light years away from the early days of mambo when I had to find people on the net to create custom mambots for simple functionality. So today my expectations are fairly high.

Joomdle doesn't meet them. There are lots of plugins included with the extension to create menus and modules and i can rely on my nice commercial template to make those look good. Great. But what I really want is a way of making moodle content look nice.

Now this is clearly a tall order because, quite frankly, moodle is pig ugly at the best of times. So I've spent a couple of days playing with Joomdle but as I'm not interested in the plugins and the modules I just want to host moodle content and make it look good what I really need is a something more than just a wrapper - which is essentially what Joomdle offers for content display.

So if you can work out how to strip out the moodle blocks from the course view and adjust your template to suit the wrapper then all is good. You've got moodle content in a wrapper. So where does Joomdle come in? Well that's the wrapper. But couldn't you create your own wrapper? Well yes I suppose so... so isn't Joomdle a bit unnecessary? Well quite possibly yes....

Actually I found hosting the course files (adobe captivate) directly in Joomla and using a php script to store results on the server seems to give me the results I need. And I have more control over the look and feel of the material - without the hangups in connection to moodle etc.

If I hadn't read one of the designers saying "we don't really "do" templates..." I may have persevered. But really for me - and surely lots of other users - it's the looks we want Joomdle for not just the wrapper and the modules.

I think the core issue is that Moodle seems to be at a level that academics would accept - scruffy, slightly unreliable and disorganised. But I think a commercial project could probably integrate the two better than Joomdle does. In fact I think a good commercial project could probably swallow moodle whole.

Great Extension

I've used this extension on our production system for over two years now. The integration between Moodle and Joomla is very good. Additionally, the integration with other key components like JomSocial, AcyMailing, JomSocial ProfileTypes, HikaShop, etc. is also very well done.

The Joomdle community has grown quite a bit over the last few years with a very active user / developer forum. Chris and Antonio are very responsive. Support is as good as (if not better) than many commercial offerings.

I highly recommend.
I'm a lecturer in a university, have Joomla website and courses in Moodle - so Joomdle is a "must be" extension for me.

Pros:

* Great extension that does exactly what it says it does: integrates most popular CMS and most used LMS together.

* Decent documentation.

* Lot of possibilities to integrate Joomdle to other Joomla's extensions (I'm using Kunena integration myself).

* All the problems I had were related to wrong configuration, not the extension itself.

* It's FREE!

Cons:

* Configuration is pretty challenging if you're not an advanced user (I'm not). You have to configure A LOT both in Moodle and Joomdle in order to get Joomdle work. But I'm not agree with jeddell that "if you do not understand what XML-RPC is /.../ unfortunately Joomdle is not the component for you". I have no clue what XML-RPC is, but Joomdle is working on my site. :) All you need is to carefully read and follow Joomdle's documentation, time and patience.

* Support in Joomdle's forum is a bit slow, but you'll eventually get one. It's a free extensions and I can understand that Antonio and Chris can't sit there 24/7.

* If you're using an older version of Moodle (1.9 and prior) you can't use many Joomdle's possibilities and you may not be able to get rid of some errors (like that "the Joomla URL is not correct in the Joomla authentication plugin in Moodle" when using multilingual Joomla mentioned in umal21's review).

Great product and thank you, Antonio and Chris, keep up the good work!
I installed Joomla 1.5 and moodle 1.9.12 in localhost (windows). I also integrated joomdle in joomla but the systems doesn't work, perhaps The Joomla URL is not correct in the Joomla authentication plugin in Moodle
If I hadn't of found Joomdle I would've spent countless sleepless nights writing what Joomdle does right out of the box. Joomdle made integrating Moodle into our corporate site a piece of cake. The clear and concise documentation and great forum community and support makes for an excellent extension/initiative.
This products works, and works well. Just installed the new version of Joomdle with Moodle2.3 and all went well. When first setting it up, READ THE DOCS. They are good. Joomla + Moodle + Joomdle = Good Educational Website, especially at the price. Support (not that you'll need it)is excellent.

Outstanding Component

Joomdle is the absolute wish list for a Joomla site integrated with Moodle. We have also integrated the Virtuemart shop to sell course participation with excellent results. Support is outstanding.

Highly recommend Joomdle.
Excellent idea that is finally being implemented. Granted they are still hard at work bringing full functionality into Joomla 1.7 they are well on their way. The support is super friendly and helpful (it is like paying for it). Not to mention this extension is free. A dream come true for me. Keep up the great work and look forward to the many more features in the near future.
