Aura Optimize is an image optimisation and compression extension for Joomla 5 and Joomla 6.

Find oversized images across your Joomla website, resize them locally on your server, compress them through CMS Aura, and optionally convert suitable images to WebP.

Local image resizing is completely free and unmetered. Aura Optimize uses PHP Imagick or GD directly on your Joomla server, allowing large images to be resized before they are uploaded for compression.

The free plan includes 50 MB of image compression every month, with no Download ID required.

For websites requiring additional compression, CMS Aura Growth provides 500 MB per month, while Infinite provides unlimited compression.

Optimise Your Existing Joomla Images

Scan your /images directory or your entire Joomla website to find images that have not yet been optimised.

Images can be added to the optimisation queue and processed individually, in bulk, or automatically using Joomla Scheduled Tasks.

Aura Optimize can identify large images based on:

• Image width
• Image height
• File size

You can then resize selected images to a maximum width directly on your server before compression.

Automatic Image Resizing

Aura Optimize can automatically resize oversized images before they are compressed.

The default maximum image size is 1920 x 1920 pixels, although this can be configured within the extension settings.

Images maintain their original aspect ratio and are never enlarged.

Because resizing happens locally using PHP Imagick or GD, there is no monthly allowance or upload limit for resizing.

Cloud Image Compression

Images can be compressed using CMS Aura with multiple optimisation levels:

• Lossless
• Aggressive
• Ultra

You can also control JPEG quality and optionally retain EXIF metadata.

The free plan includes 50 MB of compression per site, every month, without requiring a Download ID.

Resize large images before compression to reduce the amount of compression allowance they consume.

Automatic Image Optimisation

Aura Optimize can automatically optimise new images added to your Joomla website.

Joomla Scheduled Tasks can also:

• Process the existing optimisation queue
• Scan your website for new images
• Automatically optimise discovered images

This makes it possible to keep your Joomla image library optimised without manually processing every upload.

Optional WebP Conversion

JPEG, PNG and other supported images can optionally be converted to WebP.

Aura Optimize only replaces the original image when the WebP version is at least 10% smaller, helping prevent unnecessary conversions.

When an image is converted, Aura Optimize can automatically update stored image paths inside:

Original images can also be backed up before they are replaced.
