Move Joomla user management to the frontend

Version 1.5.1 supports Joomla 5 and Joomla 6 and includes the complete User Import & Export component.

Frontend UserManager works with Joomla's core user records, access levels, custom fields and ACL. Changes made in the frontend are therefore immediately reflected in Joomla's administrator interface.

Core user management

• Create and edit users — auto-generated passwords, welcome emails through Joomla MailTemplate and individual or bulk activation, blocking and deletion.
• Manage user groups — hierarchical tree view, nested indentation, administrative-group badges and controlled creation, renaming and deletion.
• Manage access levels — clear checkbox interface with select-all and deselect-all controls, including complete create and edit support.
• Joomla custom fields — published user fields appear automatically in the frontend create and edit forms, organised by field group.
• Search and filtering — search, sort, filter and paginate the user list efficiently.
• Username equals email — an optional workflow that keeps usernames synchronised with email addresses in Frontend UserManager and Joomla's native registration and profile forms.

Two permission modes

Hierarchical mode provides a three-level structure: Frontend Superuser, Frontend Administrator and no frontend access.

Administrators can only manage users and groups within their own branch of Joomla's nested group structure. This is suitable for schools, departments, associations, franchises and multi-client websites.

Joomla standard mode uses Joomla's native com_users permissions, including core.manage, core.create, core.edit and core.delete.

This mode is suitable for flatter user structures or websites where user-management ACL is already configured.

The permission mode can be changed without losing the saved configuration.

Visibility and protection

Frontend UserManager can hide system groups, technical access levels and other records that frontend administrators should not manage.

• Groups can be hidden from selectors and lists.
• Groups can be hidden completely throughout the component.
• Individual access levels can be removed from frontend management.
• Super Users and protected administrative accounts remain inaccessible.
• User Import & Export follows the same group visibility and permission boundaries.

User Import & Export — standalone and included

User Import & Export provides a guided CSV/XLSX workflow for creating, updating, exporting and migrating Joomla users. It combines visual column mapping, full-file validation, resumable jobs and protected result files.

The same component is available as a standalone product and is included with every Frontend UserManager subscription.

• CSV and XLSX — import and export core user data, group assignments and supported Joomla user custom fields.
• Validation before changes — dry-run the complete file and review create, update, skip and error results before processing.
• Flexible mapping — automatic suggestions, manual column mapping and reusable import/export profiles.
• Groups and custom fields — map groups by ID, title or hierarchy path; merge or replace group membership; include supported published com_users.user custom fields.
• Password migration — import plain passwords through Joomla's normal validation and hashing, or preserve compatible existing Joomla hashes without double hashing. Password-hash export is disabled by default and requires explicit privileged confirmation.
• Administrator and frontend workflows — the same processing engine, security controls and resumable batch handling in both interfaces.
• Frontend UserManager integration — launched directly from the user list and respects hierarchical scope, hidden groups, protected users and the optional username-equals-email rule.

The Username and Email Sync plugin extends the optional username-equals-email workflow to Joomla's native registration and profile forms.

• Single covers official updates and support for one registered production website.
• Professional covers official updates and support for an unlimited number of registered production websites.
• Local development, staging and test installations do not count as production websites.
• Renewals receive a 20% loyalty discount.

Installed extensions continue to work after a subscription expires. Access to new downloads, official updates and technical support requires an active subscription.

Protected one-click updates are delivered through Joomla's Extension Manager using the customer's download key.
